An insight in the passion for photography of Uttisht Rama

Must read

Travelling the world and taking pictures… This is certainly the dream of any photograph and it is certainly not Utthisht Rama who will say the opposite. We caught up with Utthisht Rama recently and he discusses with us about his passion for photography, travel and his career so far..

Q1) Can you give us an insight into what inspired you to become a photographer?
This inspiration well germinated in my very young age. At that time, I still recall my father had a Canon EOS5 SLR camera which he frequently captured various types of pictures in all corners of the globe as he has seen the world through his profession. Being a curious child, I often took his equipment, imitating him and even at some instances he gave me the opportunity to take pictures. This was really FASCINATING! This love for photography grew along the years. I started taking pictures through mobile phones and eventually at the end of my Year 10, I was gifted a Nikon DSLR camera. This was then where everything got serious. I started clicking photos for the family, at school and posted on social media. In 2017, I was called by the FIBA (Federation International Basketball Association) for the position of Lead Photographer for its FIBA Under16 Championship held in Mauritius. Followed by, I shot for various companies such as FEELFREE Mauritius, Air Mauritius LTD, InfoTech Mauritius as freelance for publicities, parties and so on…. Those professional environments helped me a lot to broaden my knowledge and today, I also handle Videography and Graphic Designing. At this point of time, I can proudly say that I’ve followed the steps of my father capturing and traveling round the world as profession. This was the ultimate achievement!

2)They say to be a very good photographer, you have to have a keen eye, which means you should be able to see a situation that nobody else can see. So, can you tell us about the best photo you clicked or covered?
As you said, a photographer should have a keen eye, able to see situation that nobody else can see. In my opinion, there is no sort of best or worst photo however each captured shot is unique in itself. It shares moods, emotions and vibes. Bet you have once wowed or laughed or cried by a picture as it makes you think back of that particular unique moment of your life. Each click has a story behind.

3)A photographer likes to travel and capture loads of good pictures. Can you tell us your top five countries which you would want to visit and take pictures of after this year of a pandemic?
Interesting topic! I used to travel a lot before this pandemic as Cabin Crew member for Air Mauritius. I discovered new horizons and unimaginable destinations. The countries I would place in my top five would be those where I grasped lots of knowledge in history, culture, education, discipline, which is highly affected due to covid-19 today and they are India, Australia, China, Hong Kong and Malta.

4) Utthisht, for the people who would like to engage you as their photographer for different events, what will be the best way to get in touch with you?
I’m sure everyone is connected nowadays. You just type in Utthisht Rama on Facebook, then send me a message or email me on [email protected].

5)Do you have the last word to say to our readers?
Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder said again by ME!
